
Niger fashion show
October 30, 2010Taking a break from writing on the food crisis in Niger (more on that in a subsequent post) I was invited to a fashion show on October Sat 23rd Oct 2010, by Sarra Mariko. Her sister, Kadi, displayed her collection in Niamey. It was a lovely outdoor stage on a warm evening, well attended, and she put on a good show. Before the photos, here is a short interview:
What’s your name, how old are you and where are you from?
Mariko, Kadi. My artist name is K’Mariko. I’m 34 years old from Niger
Where did you get your fashion design training?
Niger /from my mother and my godfather who is a fashion designer
How would you describe your style?
‘Hippie chic & le chic hippisant’. Fabrics include batiks, pagnes, cotton, silk and linen. I do in all kind of shades of colors – it depends on the theme of the collection
Who are some of your favourite fashion designers?
Lagerfield, Iman Ayissi & XÜLY BET ……………………and more
